Enforced Arch Introduces New Partnership

20111114-135311.jpgAfter a year's time, Enforced Arch has seen exponential growth. Creator, James Koroni began his search for compassionate 'Movers' in November of 2010. Since then relationships have been formed and new skills have been developed, all of which are conducive to his success. James is now taking necessary steps to become incorporated and with that establish community leadership.

Since the mark of our first year, November 2011, 'Mover' Tracey Katof has taken a more prominent roll in helping James expand upon his existing vision. With her influence Enforced Arch has once again grown exponentially. Enforced Arch is pleased to introduce Tracey Katof, a talented and professional performing artist, acting as 501(c)(3) Co-founder & PR Director.

Occupy Grand Army Plaza

Occupy Grand Army Plaza, Enforced Arch

Enforced Arch community is pleased to introduce you to Kathleen Stansell! Her effort entitled Occupy Grand Army Plaza is part of her company "Move for Change." She invites the dance community and supporters of this Movement to use their voices to support Occupy Wall St.

A statement from Kathleen Stansell:

Kathleen StansellMany have been saying, "Those people at Occupy Wall Street don't know what they stand for," which is just not true! If you ask anyone at Zuccotti Park, they'll tell you exactly why they're there. To save you the time and trip, I'll tell you. Occupy Wall Street is a movement inspired by our unjust and selfish government. Yes the banks are at fault. Yes the politicians are at fault. Yes greed is to blame. There are many to blame. But the truth is WE THE PEOPLE allowed this to happen. We accepted, for whatever reason, everything that's happened and has been happening. So first, the change must happen within ourselves. We must fight greed within ourselves. I ask myself, "Do I need that iPod or do I need to buy the food that is more expensive but better for my health? The LATTER! Do I need that extra pair of shoes, or do I need to donate that $60 to a homeless shelter." Occupy Wall Street is about standing together, in solidarity to help the people who live with us, next to us, far away from us, and everywhere. So please, if you don't help me, help that homeless shelter. If you don't help me, help companies like Reciprocity. If you don't help me, help yourself.

Please join us this Saturday at Grand Army Plaza, enjoy the performances and make donations for Occupy Wall Street in the form of food, clothing, blankets, hand warmers, warm clothing, first aid supplies, literature-both books and OWS literature such as information about credit unions, etc. Details:

Erin Linsday

Erin LindsayERIN LINDSAY

Erin Lindsay is originally a native of West Bloomfield Michigan were she first began her dance studies at the age of 4 at Dance Dynamics in Walled Lake Michigan.  With the loving support of her family, Erin moved to the big apple at the age of 18 to peruse her dreams on the stage.  Alumni of Marymount Manhattan College on the Upper East Side, Erin accomplished her BA in Concert Dance and a Business Management Minor. Erin’s career has taken her to over 75 cities throughout the United States. With that included, contracts with The Radio City Rockettes 2006-2011 and SJC Productions.  Recently, Erin has furthered her ability of expression by completing her first directing project, held within an environment that speaks a realistic truth; Socrates Sculpture Park.  The showing was titled "An Economic Cycle Through an Artists Perspective." And Most Recently! Erin had the opportunity to choreograph and act in her first NBC launch pilot called "A New York Series." Coming to NYC soon!

"Artists share their gift with the world as much as they share it with their own self...we are always learning.  Each day is a new day to create just as each gesture you share; should hold its own significance....we are always moving." -Erin Lindsay

An Economic Cycle: Intro, Erin Lindsay

Erin Lindsay, Enforced ArchI had lunch at Jivamukti Cafe with Erin Lindsay to discuss her recent project, An Economic Cycle (AEC). Her event turned out to be a beautiful evening of sculpture, community and dance. AEC explores an artists careful attempt to transform an abandoned riverside landfill into the now beautiful Socrates Sculpture Park and breaks it down into 9 smaller parts. Socrates Sculpture Park has seen a great deal in the past 25 years. Before it's birth, you would have seen an abandoned riverside landfill and illegal dump site where there was reported criminal activity. This wasteland left little room for safe, communities where children could explore and develop their personal identities. Erin spoke of a man named Mark di Survero who led a coalition of artists in 1986 to develop this piece of land and turn it into an open studio and exhibition space for artists and a neighborhood park for local residents.

AEC Mission Statement:

Artists are humble. They reach out to the industrious society for reclamation and in return; justify the cause of giving back through their ability of creative expression. When industry fails and society begins to landslide. When the economic struggle has set in and innovation begins to lessen; the arts will in fact stand. A garden will be planted where a landfill once lingered. We will change the lives of others and a void that once was; will be diminished. The arts will give back when hope has been lost.

Erin developed a 9 part series which illustrates this transformation, performed by 9 different dance companies. More to come, check back with Enforced Arch as we explore each step of Erin Lindsay's interpretation of An Economic Cycle!

"So You Think You Can Prance?"

364 Series

You know Dasher and Dancer and Prancer and Vixen, Comet and Cupid and Donner and Blitzen. Or do you?

'364 The Series' wittingly addresses ecological and social issues while poking fun at popular culture. I find charisma in its playful approach. With a sense of humor they speak to somewhat unreachable ears. People often want to mourn in what ignorance is dwelling. It is our responsibility to tackle current issues and make it known that we are enraged. Until we make society realize that artists are not only talents but also 'Movers', we will continue to live in delusion or live without a voice. In order to make this shift we must do our research and make our medium carry a message.

James Manzello

James Manzello, the writer of '364 The Series' carries the leading role of Donner, a reindeer with good intention, although seemingly disheartened by the worlds current state, finds himself excitable at moments of truth. By alluding to certain topics, Manzello offers a platform of discussion influenced not only with his vegan lifestyle but by having a sense of humor. His performance will inspire others to develop opinions and hopefully make for a more informed society. Fortunately, compassion is found in many forms, and James' seems to find his voice within a chuckle.

While we thought reindeer only had one simple job of pulling Santa's sleigh - the other 364 days of the year they have lives just like you and me.

All styling for '364 the Series' done by cruelty free vegan Marlena Pavich, also featuring vegan recording artist Mandy Duffy in episode 4!

'So You Think You Can Dance' occasionally brings our attention to issues of grave importance. Pieces such as Addiction by Mia Michaels and 'This Woman's work' about a woman with Breast Cancer, by Tyce Diorio are a few I will never forget. With Diorio's message brought to the forefront of the dance community I would like to continue addressing the issue.

Looking back to April of this year, I recall Kentucky Fried Chicken making efforts to raise money for the Susan G. Komen foundation.

50 cents per bucket of deep fried, "chickens, breasts."

How Ironic, this irresponsible fast food chain not only serves food that is breast cancer causing but also perpetuates diabetes, heart attacks and a slue of other health problems! Not to mention it's a bucket full of CHOPPED OFF CHICKENS BREASTS!

Fortunately the Breast Cancer foundation involved pulled out of this fundraiser. These fast food companies are a disgrace to life, compassion and welfare. Not only are they death to small business, they cause health issues in all those who consume their products and get their food through the inhumane practices of factory farming.

A moving quote from Nigel Lythgoe, a judge on 'So You Think You Can Dance,' "I don't know as a choreographer, where you get the strength from... to do a piece like this."  Issues such as these often haunt us, hearing about it day to day almost makes us want to avoid it. Unfortunately being ignorant is more popular these days than ever. We can only make change for those suffering if we as choreographers, "find the strength" to be moved by such issues.

Why do you dance?

Please leave a comment, let everyone in the Enforced Arch community know.

Not such a 'Bad Babysitter'

Princess Superstar I recently danced for Princess Superstar in Paris. She is charming, exuberant and hilarious! We met at an Olsen House fashion event. She is not only a fantastic DJ selling out houses all over Europe and Asia but also an animal rights activist.

She asked me to team up with her as choreographer and dancer for her performance at Paris Vegan Day. When I first heard her tracks I could not stop pressing repeat and found myself distracted for hours dancing to songs of hers like 'LICKY' and 'Bad Babysitter.' I immediately began sharing her music with all of my friends. I love this feeling! Check it out for yourself!

I needed a talented and professional dancer to accompany me so I contacted Bonnie Erickson the Educational Director at Broadway Dance Center. She introduced me to Celine Orang a fellow vegetarian, dancer and owner of Creadanse school in Paris. She and I worked through choreography, rehearsals and costuming for our performance with Princess Superstar, which was a huge success. This year Paris Vegan Day brought in about 5,000 people! Can you imagine how this concert must have gone?

The musicians preceding Princess Superstar were not of the same genre as her, some were groovy and others were hard rock. She was not worried saying, "We'll get them dancing," and within 30 seconds this came true. One of my favorite moments was when the song 'Party People (JUMP)' was thrown into the mix. She speaks French fluently and rather than screaming jump she yelled "SAUTE," which most dancers know means JUMP in French. Well I just about lost it. I joined Parisians in the crowd yelling, "Party people wanna SAUTE SAUTE, Party people wanna SAUTE SAUTE!"

We went NON-STOP for an hour when Princess Superstar said that she and her unborn child needed to get to bed. Seriously?! She flew to France, rocked out at Paris Vegan Day, got the crowd partying, and meanwhile she was 4 months along. She has certainly inspired us all. I can't wait to see more of Princess Superstar in the future.
